So, hier ist der endgültige Beweis: Locatik funktioniert auch ohne GPS und kann den Ort, von dem der Tik gesendet wurde, relativ gut nur mithilfe der Position im GSM-Netz definieren! Wenn das mal nicht ein Grund ist, den Dienst zu nutzen?

Nachdem ich ja schon vor einiger Zeit angekündigt hatte, am Locatik-Beta Test (inzwischen in Version 0.96 Beta!) teilzunehmen, bin ich mit meinem E65 und einem GPS Empfänger bewaffnet ein wenig umhergezogen und habe meine Umwelt getaggt.
Besonders gut funktioniert der Dienst, wenn GPS und WLAN direkt zur Verfügung stehen, allerdings klappt es auch ganz gut, wenn Tag samt Beschreibung und Bild erst später ins Netz geladen werden. Genau so ist das Bild oben entstanden. Da das zur Verfügung stehende WLAN-Netz über SecureW2 gesichert ist, und dieses Protokoll bei S60-Betriebssystemen nicht zur Verfügung steht, wurde der Tag erst bei der Einwahl ins heimische Netzwerk übertragen.
In letzter Zeit scheint Locatik auch die Funktionsweise ohne GPS zu optimieren, bei der die Ortung über das Funknetz geschieht. Das ist dann allerdings weitaus weniger genau, und es kann in der Praxis schon einmal passieren, dass der Tag ganz weit ab vom Schuss landet.
Schade ist, dass sonst noch niemand die Spielerei nutzen zu scheint, ich glaube aber nach wie vor an ihre Fähigkeit, echte Geeks ein wenig glücklicher zu machen!

Wie das funktionieren soll? Eine Idee davon bekommt man hier. Was mir jetzt noch fehlt, ist eine automatische Benachrichtigung, wenn irgendwer in der Nähe ist, der mich zum Kaffee einladen könnte.
Noch eine kurze Anmerkung: wenn ich zuhause bin, und sich das Ding nicht bewegt, ist alles ok. Wenn der Punkt aber irgendwo im Wald verschwindet und sich drei Tage lang nicht rührt…
